About Salisbury
The Town of Salisbury was incorporated in 1640, after Salisbury in Wiltshire, England. Historically a farming town, residents created access to Salisbury’s beautiful beaches in the mid 1800’s. With access to the beaches, Salisbury quickly became a popular summer resort destination. Hotels, restaurants, arcades, shopping and amusement parks were many of the area attractions. Though many of the amusement parks have long since closed, the beaches still provide a great deal of entertainment with the Blue Ocean Music Hall offering live venues and Salisbury’s Beach festivals, which also provide live entertainment, family fun, and fireworks!
In addition to Salisbury’s beaches and rolling fields sits Salisbury Square in the center of town, and Ring’s Island, which faces Newburyport on the Merrimack River. Visitors can run, walk and ride the coastal trails and shop at historic Pettengill Farm. Three times a year, Pettengill Farm opens their farm to The Vintage Bazaar a popular antiques & vintage event providing shopping, arts, and live entertainment.
